"I am a native North
Carolinian, born and raised in Bath, the
oldest town in North Carolina. I was probably
dunked in the Pamlico River before I could
walk. I assisted my grandmother in giving
the tours of the historic homes of sea
captains from long ago. Everyone in Bath
participated in the outdoor drama, 'Blackbeard,
Knight of the Black Flag' and my friends
and I were happy to run the concession
stand and hand out bug spray to folks
from all over the state while they watched
our aunts, grandmothers and little sisters
perform in the play as townspeople.
During the summers I baby-sat at night
and at sunrise I topped and suckered tobacco
for my Uncle Thad. Then I waited on tables
for the next four years that I was in
college. My dad owns one of those old
time barber shops where it's men only
( he gives the best haircut in town).
My mother is the secretary at the Methodist
church and can tell you about the families
to whom each stained glass window is dedicated.
While I attended East Carolina Universitey
I became 'Miss Cotten' in the 1988 homecoming
court. I lived in Cotten Dorm for all
four years and have many fond memories.
I started teaching school in Cartaret
County and met my husband because I took
my fifth graders to see the North Carolina
battleship. We actually got lost and I
stopped to ask this tall guy for directions.
I married the tall guy a year later and
we moved to Brunswick County. Since then,
I have become the two time winner of the
apple-peelin' contest in Mt. Airy, North
Carolina. We are Andy Griffith fans and
attend the Mayberry Days festival every
year. Last year I even got to ride in
the parade because I peeled 114 inches
out of one apple!!
It has been a long journey for the girl
from the Pamlico River but Brunswick County
has become my home. I sing in the choir
at Southport Baptist Church. I am on a
mission to help collect suits for women
of domestic violence so that they can
go on interviews as they try to start
their lives over. I am a member of a local
bookclub...I love to read! For 16 years
I taught the very best students in this
county readin' writin' and ritmetic'!
It has been a joy to watch so many families
raise their children and see them grow
up.
A little blond mutt of a dog named 'Taz'
has been with 'the tall guy' and me for
7 years and we hope for many more to come.
She and I eat eggs and cheese every morning.
On the weekends, my husband and I like
to eat breakfast at Hardees, go to yardsales
and rent movies from the $1.00 slot at
Lowe's grocery store. About every two
months I visit my sister in Raleigh, who
is my best friend. We like to get our
hair trimmed, walk through the mall then
go to her house and play on the slide
with my nephew. We take turns holding
my new niece named Katherine...of course!
Then it's back to the sand, the lakes
and waters of Brunswick county. The best
people you will ever meet will welcome
you into this community. To watch the
4th of July fireworks with them, to take
walks downtown, sit on the swings, get
a coffee or a fried shrimp plate. There
is nothing like watching the sun set over
the cape Fear Country with a glass of
sweet tea and the smell of wild jasmine
in the air. I look forward to serving
you and your family and helping you to
make your real estate dreams come true! "
